La fontana di Trevi | The Roman Aqueducts

I'm sure you've all heard or seen at least once in your life something about this beautiful creation.
La fontana di trevi is one of the greastest buildings on architecture history, but do you know why?

I was in class the other day, and we were talking about water and it's importance on architecture. The professor started showing us how the roman aqueduct system works, and it turns out that this fountain that appears on the facade of the bulding is nothing less than the terminal point of the  Acqua Vergine one of the aqueducts of the ancient Rome.

It also has a scene represented in the sculpture grupe that narrates how the roman aqueducts were born: the technical Romans located a pure water source with the help of the Virgin, only twenty-two kilometers from the city, allowing them to start creating all this mechanism.

The professor also told us how the water went through different hights and how everything worked without the technology that we have today.

The aqueducts were also closed so there was no risk of evaporation or contamination by enemies since the water came from outside the city and there were long parts that no one could keep an eye on.

Finally, the water arrived in the city in this arches that support the way of the aqueduct, giving it the right height for the system to work correctly.

So, what do you think of all of this? Isn't it amazing to know the story behind those things that we see everywhere but we don't really know why? Please leave me a comment telling me your thoughts cause I would love to read them! Hope you enjoyed reading this.... Till the next one!
